Product Development
Developing your own product is a big endeavour. That’s why our team of composite experts can support you with the complete process from advising on detailed design to manufacture and more.
Our capabilities
Decades of composite experience supports the product development process by inspiring innovative designs whilst ensuring solutions are practical to make bringing your idea to life, realistic.
How does product development work?
You drive the product vision; we sign the NDAs to keep it top secret but, in the background, assist in bringing it to life in detailed design. Our experienced team has the knowledge and skills to make the product development and process seamless, safe and enjoyable.
Why is skilled development key?
To avoid costly production changes, your product idea must be robust. That’s why we only manufacture composite products or parts that have been detailed designed to support you to manufacture your product in a practical way.
The Process
At Composite Products we offer a complete service from product design advise, through to tooling and manufacture. Here are the main process stages and we’re happy to support you at one stage or several.

What is composite product development?
Composite product development is the process of designing, engineering, and refining a composite component or system from the initial concept stage through to manufacture. This process typically includes concept evaluation, CAD design, material selection, prototyping, tooling considerations, testing, and production planning to ensure the final product meets both performance and commercial requirements.
At Composite Products, product development is approached with manufacturability and end-use performance in mind from the outset. By considering structural requirements, weight reduction, environmental conditions, and production methods early in the process, it is possible to reduce development risks, improve efficiency, and create composite solutions that are suitable for long-term production.
Can you help develop a product from an early-stage concept?
Yes. Composite Products regularly works with customers at the earliest stages of development, including projects that begin with initial sketches, technical requirements, or conceptual ideas. Early-stage support can include feasibility assessments, material recommendations, design input, and guidance on the most suitable manufacturing methods for the intended application.
Working collaboratively during the early development phase helps identify potential design or manufacturing challenges before they become costly issues later in the project. This approach allows components to be refined for performance, cost-efficiency, durability, and repeatable manufacture while ensuring the final solution remains aligned with the project objectives.
What industries do you support with composite product development?
Composite Products supports a wide range of industries where lightweight, high-strength, and technically demanding composite solutions are required. This includes sectors such as aerospace, automotive, defence, rail, marine, energy, and industrial manufacturing.
Different industries require different material properties, compliance considerations, and manufacturing approaches. Composite Products works closely with clients to develop solutions that meet the specific operational, structural, and environmental requirements of each application while maintaining high quality and production consistency.
Can composite materials help reduce product weight without affecting strength?
One of the primary advantages of composite materials is their ability to deliver high strength and stiffness while significantly reducing overall component weight compared to traditional materials such as steel or aluminium. This makes composites particularly valuable in industries where performance, fuel efficiency, handling, or load reduction are important.
By selecting the appropriate reinforcement materials, resin systems, and manufacturing processes, composite components can often achieve an excellent balance between structural integrity, durability, and weight reduction. This allows engineers and manufacturers to optimise product performance without compromising reliability or long-term functionality.
